The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) updated its state fiscal report on December 18th projecting budget gaps for this year and next year combined for a total of more than $350 billion. Although the ARRA fiscal relief to states mitigated states’ fiscal problems—closing state-shortfalls by 30-40%--states are continuing to cut services like education and health care as they implement 2010 budgets.
