Health Care Reform Likely Delayed in the House; Floor Votes Not Likely Before August Recess

House Democrats spent this week negotiating their health reform overhaul and making little progress. Blue Dog Democrats on the Energy and Commerce Committee continue to raise concerns about certain provisions, particularly the public plan. Frustrations with not having enough votes to pass the Energy and Commerce Committee may cause Democratic leaders to send the bill directly to the floor without that committee's input.

President Obama Thursday said he can accept that his August deadline will pass without an overhaul of the health care system, but he insisted that a bill reach his desk this fall.

Energy and Commerce Committee Includes CLASS Act in Health Reform Bill Mark Up

The Energy and Commerce Committee Monday approved by voice vote the CLASS Act as part of their mark up, which has not been completed. However, if the Democratic leadership decides not to wait for the committee to complete its mark up, the long term supports and services provisions will not be in the bill voted on the floor.
