A story today in the Washington DC newspaper Politico showcases a pilot program aimed at giving individuals with intellectual disabilities opportunities to experience a high profile work place: the U.S. House of Representatives. The internships are part of a pilot program created by Representative Gregg Harper (R-MO), House Administration Committee Republicans and Mason LIFE, a post-secondary program at George Mason University for adults with intellectual disabilities. The students do everything from answering constituent mail and shredding paper to learning how to give tours of the Capitol.
